Bead Embroidery Workshop at Bergen House
Video Montage x Austin Welch

Austin Welch captured my bead embroidery workshop at Bergen House, hosted in the sunlit studio he shares with artists Jackson Joyce, Juliana Barton + Sophi Miyoko Gullbrants. The set-up and approach mirrored what I aim to foster: a place where curiosity outweighs pressure.

We kept it simple, bringing hand-selected beads, fabrics, and tools; Austin captured the quiet hum of focus and bustling bursts of laughter between stitches. Guests arrived to light bites + drinks, then settled in as I walked them through basics—how to thread a needle, secure beads, and trust the rhythm of the process.

  • The room softened as everyone found their flow. Some leaned into silence; others traded stories. By the end, each person held a one-of-a-kind piece—a pendant, a patch, something entirely their own—but just as meaningful were the conversations that lingered after the needles stopped.

  • Austin’s footage caught it all: busy hands, half-finished sketches, the quiet pride of creating something tangible in just hours. It reminded me creativity doesn’t need grand gestures to build confidence—sometimes it’s as simple as showing up, thread in hand, and letting the rest unfold.
