Bead Embroidery Workshop at Playground
Collaboration w/ Sage Dumont + Sophi Gullbrants

I hosted a bead embroidery workshop at Playground—a cozy coffee shop, restaurant, and community hub in Brooklyn owned by Zenat Begum. For the event, I partnered with artist and designer Sage Dumont and baker Sophi Gullbrants. Sage and Sophi are both talented designers. Sage baked a homemade cake and Sophi produced a beautiful spread for the event.

We kept the focus on ease and connection. Guests arrived to the smell of fresh coffee and pastries, then settled into tables surrounded by Playground’s welcoming clutter of plants and art. I started with a quick demo of basic stitches, emphasizing that imperfection was part of the charm.

  • What I loved most was watching the room shift from tentative silence to a steady buzz of conversation. Some worked intently on brooches or patches; others paused to swap stories or ask for thread recommendations. By the end, everyone left with a handmade piece, but also with that unspoken warmth that comes from creating in good company.

  • Grateful for spaces like Playground—and collaborators like Sage and Sophi—that remind me how creativity thrives when we make room for both mess and magic.
